KATHY ROWE - WOMAN IN HORROR!

Kathy Rowe is my Woman in  Horror today! I'm going to start this out by posting a few paragraphs I had in my Woman In Horror post for her last year.

                                                                *    *    *    *

I have known Kathy for quite some time. She was still in the Air Force when we first touched bases and her main claim to author fame was her enticing military series Dragonslayers. These are great novels and for those of you wanting to find out about the workings of Special Forces Teams, these are the books for you. We're talking award winning books, my friends. Kathy does extensive research with everything she writes. I consider Military fiction to be Horror in the truest sense of the word. Real life Horror brought front and center.

I would suggest her great novel The Hall for died in the wool Horror fans. It is here for sure! This is a brutal tale of good intentions gone bad. The ghost in this novel is the most wicked one I have ever read about. I was a Beta reader for this great story and told Kathy it was superb and she better get it published. Thank goodness she did. This tale runs the gamut of emotions, but demons and ghosts are not exactly easy entities to live with. I write horror, and I was on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. There is no way you can go wrong with this super story!

I am also partly responsible for her jumping into Sci-fi with her fantastic Dar Meltom hero. She was reluctant to write these stories, but I nudged her in the right manner and now she has four fantastic Dar tales. Hey, I was even asked about some technical things because I have a couple of PhD's in Physics. How cool is that?

Kathy loves horses: caring for them and riding them, so it is only natural that she should write about them. Silks And Sand is doing extremely well. Once more, Kathy does her research and you don't get a story bordering on disbelief. If you love horse racing books, you will enjoy this one.

You'll notice I included some of Kathy's erotica tales here. Why? To show you the breadth of her writing talents. And you know what? She uses her same author name for everything she writes. Now I know some of you will argue that certain genres should maybe have a different pseudonym. I disagree. Everything I write from now on will be under my Blaze name. Not only does this show your readers the scope of your work, but it means you only have to market one brand. The internet search engines will all run straight to you. Does this work? Yes, it does. Kathy works very hard at the craft, but while she's not Stephen King rich, she receives a steady income from her books every month. Something to ponder on, folks.

So whether it be a tale written within the confines of a scary castle, as in The Hall, the real life horror in the Dragonslayers, or the sci-fi terror of Dar Meltom, one thing is certain. Kathy Rowe is a Woman In Horror!

Kathy's Amazon bio:

After serving over 20 years in the Air Force, I made the ultimate job switch: to farmer and author. It was a drastic change, not to mention a drastic pay cut! I've been writing 25+ years and have been published in a variety of media: book, newspaper, photography, and magazine. I love to write, it seems to be a passion I can't ever seem to satisfy.

It started out with the first book of the Dragonslayers Saga. "Project: Dragonslayers" is an MWSA award winning novel about an unlikely Special Forces team who are thrown headlong into the world of counterterrorism. The second book, "Dragonslayers: Mind Games" continues the saga where the team enters the twisted world of al-Qaeda. They must find the source of a mystery explosive, or risk losing more innocent civilians to attacks. This book was selected for the MWSA summer 2011 reading list. The third book in the series is "Dragonslayers: Battle Rhythm." This time it's Yemen, and the team finds out they're not invincible. Two more books in this series are slated for release: "Kill Box" Released Dec 2013 and "Critical Mass" (2014 or 2015).

Also I've expanded my work in other genres. Out now is the best-selling contemporary romance, "Cowboys and Olympians." You'll fall in love with Leo Richards, a champion reining horse trainer, as he tries to convince himself that he can love again after his wife and unborn child were killed in a fiery car crash.

If supernatural thriller/ horror appeals to you, give "The Hall" a try. You'll meet Marcus Bishop, wealthy Memphis book publisher; his new and terrifically eccentric best friend, Prince Mongo; along with a ghost and demons that haunt the old castle Marcus buys.

After taking a dare from a horror author friend, I started work on the "Space" series. "Space Crazy" introduces you to Dar Meltom, a half breed alien who's had a rough time. He longs for a life in the stars, and as difficult as it is, his mother manages to help him achieve his goal. "Space Junk," the second book is also completed. The third book in the series, "Space Available," was released Aug 2013. The final book is "Space Invaded."

Most recently, I was given a rare distinction of placing 1st in Ron Knight's top 100 Facebook authors of 2012. He starts with 8,000 and narrows it down to 100. An honor indeed.

As always, I appreciate feedback and book reviews. I'm a small fish in a huge ocean just trying to stay afloat. I love my writing and pour heart and soul into each work I do.

The Hall:

Book Description

October 2, 2012
After two years away from his home of Memphis, TN; wealthy book publisher, Marcus Bishop, arrives to find his beloved city a disaster. The economy is sagging, commerce failing, and buildings are being boarded up at an alarming rate.

One place in particular catches Marcus's eye: An old castle-like structure situated in the Garden District. Once a resplendent mansion, Ashlar Hall now sits empty and destitute. Money and love alone can't bring this building back from the brink; it will take Marcus's soul to free the building from the ravages of time and the spirits that haunt it.

A philanthropist and lover of unique architecture, Marcus decides to buy the Ashlar Hall and return it to its former glory. What he doesn't realize is that included in the business transaction is a love-struck, jealous ghost who will stop at nothing to get Marcus into the afterlife.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Hall by K. Rowe October 4, 2012
Format:Paperback
I am not usually a reader of the horror/supernatural genre, so I was skeptical about THE HALL. Just to be upfront, I read the book in draft stage, being the copy editor...and was more familiar with K. Rowe's military fiction which I truly enjoyed... so I went at this with an open mind. I grew to love the characters, and the cool thing is that this is fiction based on some facts...and real people and places...but then I guess great fiction often is that way. Do I believe in ghosts after reading this book? Don't want to!! Is this a happily ever after? No...scary things happen in this book...it isn't for the weak of heart...read at the risk of having shivers and goose bumps...warning...

4.0 out of 5 stars A must read March 3, 2014
Format:Paperback
When I started this book I was skeptical. Not usually one to read the mystery horor type. It didn't take long to drag me in.....hook line and sinker! Each chapter left me anxiously wondering what was coming. The fact that this is based on a real house made The Hall more interesting to me. I have recommended this read to many! K. Rowe is a talented author.

As I said before, this frightening masterpiece of horror has the most wicked ghost I have ever read about. Take it from me, this is Dark Horror at it's best! It will scare the bejesus out of you.

Review

Selected as book of the month for October, 2010 --Military Writer's Society of America

5.0 out of 5 stars Dragonslayers May 10, 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I found this author by accident and after reading several excerpts I decided to come to Amazon and purchase the E-Book I also purchased a Kindle reader just so I could read it, with that said I found this book to be over the top, having served in the Army for twenty years and having experience in dealing with the set up of a specical ops unit I found this book to be dead on in relation to the problems I encountered when dealing with issues such as equipment, personnel and more.
This book brought back so many memories that I sometimes felt as if the author had been reading my mind concerning some of the adventures that I was involved in during this period of my life if you will.
I found this book to be highly enjoyable and was unable to put it down once I started reading it and there has only been one other author able to hold my attenation like that which was Louis L'Amour, I am hoping that someday this book will be on the big screen and belive me I will pay good money to go see it , I have even gone so far as to make my self a list as to who should play what part, I am also planning on obtaining all the books in this series regardless of however many there may be it is that exciting to me.
In closing let me say this, I am by no means a trained writer or reviewer but when I get this excited about a book then by all means part with some of your money and get it you will not be disappointed I assure you, this book may even give you a little insight into the world of special ops even if it is fiction.

Format:Paperback
The hardest challenges don't come from being a woman, but from those who would sabotage you along the way. "Project: Dragonslayers" tells the story of a determined Air Force woman in the form of Eagle Tryggvesson who tries to make her unit the most successful it can become. But success is not wished on her by Navy man Richard Westland, who seems to be out to prevent her successes every step of the way. "Project: Dragonslayers" is a riveting read of battling terrorism and discrimination in one fell swoop.

This great novel has all Five and Four Star reviews. This is not easy for authors to accomplish in this genre. Veterans don't accept just anything. But they do love Kathy's books. I'm a Veteran. I know.

Space Crazy (Dar's Adventures in Space Book 1)

Book Description

December 25, 2011
The Ontarrin Galaxy is a rough and tumble place. Young Dar Meltom knows this for fact. As the half breed offspring of an incredibly unlikely joining between an Earthling male and a Satiren female, he knows what fighting is all about. Having spent his childhood on Erotis 3 getting into fights because he was different, Dar’s only solace comes from watching the stars. He’s crazy about them. He dreams about them, and secretly wishes he could be among them.

His mother, Denrika, knows her son is at a disadvantage. Living in a purebred society, his chances for getting a job after he graduates school are slim. Until one day, a large alien strolls into the general store where she works. His name is Gwog, and he’s captain of the space freighter Cunik. Little does he know, Denrika will convince him that he needs another crew member—a seventeen year old half breed with his head in the stars.

Dar joins the crew of the Cunik and quickly learns that space life isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. After being on board only a few days, he’s stricken with Skrinnian fever and nearly dies. Gwog and Karnis nurse him back to health, and then he learns more important lessons about death, pirates, love, and the value of the friends he’s made. Until such time as he’s on his own, Dar absorbs everything Gwog teaches him. Then, one night, a game of Sirrixian poker changes his life forever…

I have read all of the military thrillers, plus several of her other novellas that Ms Rowe has written, and THIS was my first Sci-Fi venture and I must say that I was NOT disappointed in the least,I found that the characters and story line well written and maintained through out the book and reminded me that it was somewhat of a melding of Star Wars, Star Trek, Battle Star Gallicta and Buck Rogers and if this is ever made into a movie it will be a block buster I assure you, in fact I have found it so interesting that I purchased a copy for my permanent libary after downloading it as a Freebie here at Amazon and have read it at least five(5) times, and now I am waiting for her next installment of this series , I highly recommend that you too take advantage of this free book, YOU will NOT be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Space Crazy Rocks!, January 21, 2012

This review is from: Space Crazy (Dar's Adventures in Space Book 1) (Kindle Edition)
K. Rowe is my FAVORITE writer of sci-fi! Wham! The lady knows how to spin an in and out of this world tale that is funny, sexy, intriguing, and filled with suspense and battle scenes. Dar Melton, the hero in this tale, is a young man who has been picked on because of the fact he is different: half earthling and half Satiren. Even in the outer reaches of the universe, bullies exist, and they pick on people just because they're not the same as them.

But Dar's mother hopes to change all of that and give her son a chance in an unfair world. At the young age of 17, he joins up with the crew of a space freighter and becomes a man; and a proud warrior.

That's all I can say without ruining the story for you, but if you love a great action-packed sci-fi tale, grab this story and the ones to come in the series.

Oh, yeah! It doesn't get any better than this!

The last review is mine. Yes, this is the book I told Kathy she had to write. It is great! I love the fact the hero is believable and flawed. Had Kathy presented him as being perfect, Dar would have been boring as all get out. Not in these stories. Also, take note that the Kindle book is free. Grab it. Read it. You'll want to read the others.

If you look at the book covers below, you will see what I was talking about before. Kathy writes about everything. A new book this year is Sevy The Duck.

Book Description

November 15, 2014 1 - 6 P - 1
A heartwarming children's book about a lonely duckling named Sevy. She's the only one to hatch and has no Mommy. A human Mommy adopts her and teaches her how to be a duck. Sevy longs to have more friends. Will you be her friend?

                                                                *    *    *    *

When Kathy told me she wanted to write a children's book I figured she could write one if she put her mind to it. She did, and a story was born.

                                                               *    *    *    *

Well, Kathy can tell a great tale, and the genre doesn't matter. Evil paranormal horror, Military horror, and sci-fi horror are all well represented and well told. She is a master at the craft.

Kathy Rowe is a Woman In Horror!
