Nicole Storey is my Woman In Horror today! Nicole writes fantastic YA fantasy/urban fantasy/paranormal tales. Her Grimsley Hollow series is super good! This series is dedicated to all children with disabilities. There are three books in the series. Nicole had these books published before, but she was not happy with the editing and other issues, so she took them down and is polishing up the apples, so to speak.

From Goodreads:

The series is about Gage Gilbert, an eleven-year-old boy who has Autism, loves Halloween, and has no friends. Although he has always been happy with the safety and security of his family, he longs for a real friend and adventure - not just the ones he makes up in his head. Then, he meets Eve. Eve is a young witch from another world called Grimsley Hollow. It's where all magical beings live in safety and peace, but their world is in trouble. Gage is the only one who can help save them from an evil witch who has taken control. With Eve's help (along with a sarcastic pixy, a trouble-making werewolf, and a half-vampire), Gage travels to Grimsley Hollow. Together, they begin a journey that will change them all. It's a dangerous race against evil, where creatures unheard of stalk the land under a harvest moon and monsters that only exist in dreams become real. Gage wanted friends and adventure, but he had no idea they would come at such a dangerous price. Can one autistic boy defeat an evil witch and help save his new friends? Travel to Grimsley Hollow and find out!

I not only love the writing of this story but the fact that Nicole made an Autistic child her hero. She has a son who is autistic and this series is a labor of love and awareness. Nicole and I share common ground with Autism. My 19 year old granddaughter, six year old daughter, and I all have Autism.

Go to http://www.nicolestoreyauthor.com/contestgiveaways/april-is-autism-awareness-month/ and find out what Nicole is doing to raise awareness for Autism.

From Nicole:

"On a more personal note, I’d like to introduce my Grimsley Hollow series to those who are not aware. These award-winning, bestselling books give #specialneeds children a hero of their own to cheer for. Middle-grade (#MG) #Fantasy with a touch of #Halloween, this series is suitable for kids ages 10 and up.
Through the month of April, you can download the first two books for #99cents.
Special needs children only want to have friends and to be accepted for who they are. Together, we can make this happen."

To help Nicole put more of these great books in children's hands, I will give away 10 copies of either of the first two books in the series to the first 10 people who respond to me on my Facebook page  https://www.facebook.com/blaze.mcrob. You can either leave me a message there or go directly to my Private Message option and give me your email address so I can send it to you. No catches involved. I just want people to enjoy these great books.

"I loved the Harry Potter books and i can heartfully say that Nicole Storey has captured the magic and mystery of Grimsley Hollow just as good as JK Rowling did in her books but with the additional insight of what an autistic person has to deal with on a day to day basis." -Mr. Magic
"Nicole Storey deals with middle school issues in such intriguing way that leaves kids mesmerized by the story instead of realizing that they are learning tolerance and acceptance in the process. I read the Kindle version and was so impressed that I bought the paperback for the sixth grade class at my school. From what I heard, the kids loved it as much as I did!" -Jane Carroll, Author
"The Grimsley Hollow series is clearly not just for young adults! However, it does inspire young people to read. It's a reason to get off of their devices and video games and actually read a book. What a concept! Something that is decreasing as time goes by which is a real shame since young people can get the best education by reading. Let's hope that changes because books like these gets you thinking as there are many positive messages and virtues shared throughout these pages. It's actually much more than it seems. It's golden!" -Brend Perlin, Author

From the Inside Flap

What are people saying about Grimsley Hollow: The Chosen One?
Exciting, scary, a breathless chase to save Grimsley Hollow from the clutches of an evil witch.  This is Halloween at your doorstep, dark shapes in the woods at night.  Shivery wonderful!
-Malla Duncan - Smashwords purchase
...so many people (children and adults alike) look at autism as a disability in the world today, but Gage proves that this is not true
-Arual - Just a reader - Amazon purchase
This is truly a magical book that I hope will inspire empathy for kids that might be a little bit different
-James Crawford - Amazon purchase
...this is a book I yearn to see on the movie screen.  This is also a book I would love to see used as part of the curriculum in middle school

5.0 out of 5 stars Charming, Magical and Fun to Read. September 15, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a charming story about a young autistic boy called Gage who gets invited into the " storybook " world of Grimsley Hollow to help the people and creatures defeat an evil witch, who is causing havoc in the search of a magic key.
This is very much in the vain of the Harry Potter books except the hero of the story is autistic and there's no school.

In the story you get to meet some characters which are expertly crafted and within a short time you feel as if you've known them forever.
There's vampires, witches, pixies, dragons and even a demon doctor.

Now, I loved the Harry Potter books and i can heartfully say that Nicole Storey has captured the magic and mystery of Grimsley Hollow just as good as JK Rowling did in her books but with the additional insight of what an autistic person has to deal with on a day to day basis.

I just hope that the right person comes along and reads this book because it, in my opinion, has the same potential to be liked and enjoyed as much as the HP series and I can't wait to see what adventures await Gage in the follow up books in the world of Grimsley Hollow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, descriptive and a joy to read! April 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I came across Nicole Storey and her book via Ritesh Kala's Book Blog. He was doing a week long spotlight of Nicole and her book Grimsley Hollow-The Chosen one. I read the interview and learned she was inspired to write this book because of her son Gage who has Autism. As a mother, she was heartbroken when her son was sad over poor treatment at school by his fellow peers. Alot of students look at kids with Autism as stupid. Nicole wanted her son and others to know that "Autism does not mean stupid." In fact, they are quite brilliant individuals. She wanted Gage to know how wonderful he is and that having Autism is not a bad thing. She wanted other children with Autism and their fellow peers to know this as well.

So she decided to write a book that would include tidbits to explain Autistic behavior (Ex."stemming") and this wonderful idea turned into a very wonderful, descriptive and hooking start to a series! I loved all of the characters... Gage,Eve,Landon, Puck...all of them! Right from the beginning the story snatches you up and you are hooked until the end. I have gone through the other reviews and agree with all statements. I will not give an overview of the book because the other reviewers have done a wondeful job of it already, why repeat?

Thank you Nicole for being a wonderful mother and creating this wondeful story!

(I was in no way paid to give this review, in fact I proudly purchased this book for a very reasonable price and am sharing my review simply because I loved it)

Grimsley Hollow - Eve of the Beginning is a prequel to the wonderful book, "Grimsley Hollow - The Chosen One" by Nicole Storey. It tells its story through the eyes of Eve Broch, the little witch in The Chosen One as she chronicles the events leading up to the her arrival in the human world to recruit Gage's help in saving her world of magical creatures from the evil Inari. It provides a great back story for the characters in the first book. Since I read the chosen one prior to this book, I am bias toward recommending the books be read in that order. However,I think this story of Eve, if read first, will flow nicely into the previously published book in the series.

I enjoyed the humor in the book a great deal and there is lots of it. But there are also some touching moments where the reader can't help but love the little witch's spirit and courage. What questions the reader of the first book may have had about Grimsley Hollow and the magical creatures who live there, are answered nicely in this addition to the series.

Eve's story is entertaining to read because she is a likable, witty and warmly written character. The book, although a prequel, is delightful as a stand alone story.

What a great beginning of what looks like a promising series. I was instantly entranced and completely enchanted by the whimsical story. I must have been ingesting elf brew too. I'm no YA fan and to be able to interest me in a book takes a bit of ingenuity on the part of the author. Nicole receives high mark from me, and I can't wait to read the next in the series!

Although this is really #1 in the series, it's #2. It's the prequel. Nicole felt it only fitting to slip this tale in. I certainly agree with her decision. This is a great story!

The Search for Siren ( Grimsley Hollow Book 3 )

Book Description

December 9, 2014 10 - 18 5 - 12
Grimsley Hollow is under attack again. Is Inari trying to seize the Key of Opa and take control of Grimsley Hollow or is she under the power of someone even more insidious, greedy, and evil?

Siren has been kidnapped in hopes of drawing out his family and friends, especially twelve-year-old Gage, who holds the Key of Opa and all the power of Grimsley Hollow. The Daoi, a group of rogue werewolves, is enlisted to aid and abet. They would love nothing more than to sink their teeth into Siren’s pack.

When danger hits too close to home, Gage and his friends have no choice but to travel to Hemming Woods and confront the devil and his minions on their own turf – Dark Hollow.

There is nothing stronger than the bond of friendship, nothing more enduring than the ties of family, and nothing more powerful than a boy who has discovered his own self worth and the magic that comes with believing in himself.

But Gage must hurry. Siren is not the only one depending on him now.

The Search for Siren is the third book in the Grimsley Hollow series.

Rarely have I been so gripped by a story.... I started this and could not put it down; if only I had 10* to give I would.
Ms Storey skill as an author is amazing. The emotions that she pulls you through are immense and yet she is there to hold your hand the whole way through!
YA story?? yes absolutely, I would be happy for any of my nieces and nephews to read this; humour abounds and the world she creates is fun, loving, scary and feels true.
But this story extends far beyond a YA story, I, at a grand old age of 40 have been routed to the spot reading this.
Ms Storey transports you back straight to the end of the last book, a small catch up chapter is all it takes to remind you of where you were left off; so powerful are her characters.
This is a thriller of a story as the whole of "good" Opa tries to rescue Siren and stop the "evil wizard".
A run of the mill story I hear you cry... oh no! this is far from a fun romp of witches and faeries and will terrorise you in parts, make you hold your breath in others and some of the profound statements will make you actually stop in your tracks.
At one point I was screaming (in my head as it was 5am!) at Maddy for being so closed, crying for poor Siren and cheering Inari on....I look forward to a pair of her knitted socks on sale soon!
The undertones and morality of this story will also make your heart ring, the love almost drips of the page.
I dare anyone not to feel totally uplifted and ready to save the world at the end of reading this.
I am so looking forward to the next installment!

Blind Sight ( The Celadon Circle Book 1 )

Book Description

October 30, 2013
Jordan has visions of monsters, demons, and death. Seventeen, orphaned, and born into the family business, she doesn’t have friends, she doesn’t have choices. Her uncle, older brothers, and a few annoying angels dominate her life, demanding she tow their lines – and the punishment is severe when those lines are crossed.

When Jordan is ordered to help hunt down a monster, she’s not sure which she dreads more: the elusive, blood-thirsty creature or spending time in a cramped backwoods cabin with a brother who despises her. To make matters worse, a demon shows up and warns Jordan that she could be her family’s next assignment.

In a game between Good and Evil where God seems to have tapped out early, lines are blurred and not everything is as it seems. Jordan learns a little too late that the real monster is closer than she thinks.

The Celedon Circle is a secret society of human demon slayers. Jordan is a seeker, born and raised to fight demons along with her family. Being a seeker makes her rare and highly valued for her visions of demon activity. The story starts with one of Jordan's visions of an unusually horrific monster which has been summoned in a small Tennessee town. Ms. Storey paints graphic pictures of the carnage this monster wreaks and the reader is grabbed by the throat and dragged into the story.
Other than her unique ability and special family circumstances, Jordan is more or less a typical teenager and her humanity is demonstrated throughout the book. With the story being told through Jordan's eyes we get to know her well along with her perspective of some not so good angels and not so bad demons. The lines between good and evil are blurred and the twists in this character-driven plot are startling. I also found all of the characters realistic and well developed, their dialogue was believable, and the relationships authentic.
I have to confess I was held captive through the entire story. The Tennessee     story thread is tied up nicely at the end so there is not a cliffhanger ending. However, I can't wait to see how things develop as Jordan's world is turned upside down by an unexpected twist at the end. This could turn into a stellar series. If you are looking for a different sort of urban fantasy this may be a book you would enjoy.

Jordan may have a cool psychic power, hang out with angels and have the ability to kick some serious demon butt, but she still has to deal with the same teenage angst as other girls her age. Family drama, too much responsibility and the fact that she is forced to be something she's not sure she wants to be. Every girls feels like she's got the weight of the world on their shoulders, but Jordan literally does. Blind Sight does an excellent job of describing what is tantamount to a supernatural demon smack-down while keeping Jordan a realistic teenage girl with normal teenage feelings and keeps the reader wanting more. I want more...much, much, more.

I can see this book turning into a series of books that will be a runaway hit. I can't wait to see what Storey has in store for us next.

I read this book in two nights. I read every night, but usually take a week to finish a book. But I couldn't put this one away. The characters were very well written for the YA audience ... not too simple, but clearly defined and understood.
The storyline was intriguing and a lot of fun to follow all the little twists and turns.
While one of the twists was carefully hinted about, the final twist came out of the blue and really added a great kick to the end.
Now my only complaint is ... how long do I have to wait for the next chapter in this storyline?
I am 56 yr old and loved this book!
