This will be a short piece and it is my own opinion. Many Presses, Visionary Press Collaborative included, give away free books. Sometimes it's to lead readers into the second novel of a series or a glimpse into the talent of an author. Some books are free on a permanent basis, and others for a few days or a week.

I will state here and now that I will not be doing this. Yes, I have stories and even novels in serial form that can be read on my website and others, and they are free to read. But when they hit Amazon, B&N, Smashwords, and more, they will all have a price tag on them. Short stories will usually be .99. Novellas will be $2.99 or more. Full length novels will be $4.99. I'm talking 300 page books here.

The reason I will charge for my books is that writing a good book takes time, a good editor, super art, and great formatting. I have to pay for all that. And I'm going to just give my stories and books away for free? No way! Also, if I'm counting correctly, my first nine projects all go to charitable institutions. If I don't charge for the books, they won't make anything, will they?

Now, on the other hand, dropping the price of a book for a short time is okay, I believe, to spur sales. But never free. My books are better than that. If they're not, I better get out of the business.

Once again, these are my opinions only.

Thank you for reading.
