THE WINDS OF THE RAMAPO

Today is Throwback Thursday. Here is a poem I wrote a number of years ago.

The Winds Of The Ramapo

The wind bears down cross wide expanse.
On river’s surface ripples dance.
So many years have come and gone.
Yet still they show when breeze is on.

For many years inside they toiled,
Their bodies torn and oh so soiled.
The owners of the mines were cruel,
As workers with their lives did duel.

No safety measures at the time,
Took strong men down while in their prime.
To line the pockets of the rich,
The dead they buried in a ditch.

But now the mine’s been closed for years,
And no one’s left to shed some tears.
Yet when the wind decides to blow,
The spirits all decide to show.

From high atop the mountain’s hell,
Along the river now they dwell.
And in this place of peace and love,
They worry not what’s up above.

For now they choose to spend time here,
And worry not of any fear.
Their souls are satisfied at last,
‘Cause all their grief is in the past.
